WWE Champion CM Punk won the Slammy Award for Pipe Bomb of the Year
Former DX member The Road Dogg made a surprise return to WWE to present the always vocal WWE Champion CM Punk with the Slammy Award for Pipe Bomb of the Year. Accepting the statue alongside a mannequin that looked not unlike a young John Laurinaitis, The Straight Edge Superstar used this opportunity to further embarrass the Interim Raw General Manager by presenting a video package that highlighted the executive’s more embarrassing moments. (WATCH) Punk will definitely hear about this in his performance review.
The Miz & Alberto Del Rio def. WWE Champion CM Punk & Randy Orton
Less than a week before he defends his WWE Title against The Miz and Alberto Del Rio in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match at WWE TLC, CM Punk teamed with former rival Randy Orton to face his opponents and suffered a vicious beating. Attacked by Wade Barrett during the bout, The Viper chased the thug through the crowd, leaving The Straight Edge Superstar outnumbered by the vicious villains. After Miz pinned Punk, The Mexican Aristocrat and The Awesome One worked together to ruthlessly bash the WWE Champion with a ladder and promised to destroy him completely on Sunday.
WWE Champion CM Punk won the Slammy Award for WWE Superstar of the Year
Incapacitated after the brutal beating he received in his tag bout, the WWE Champion was unable to accept the biggest award of the night from presenter Rey Mysterio. Instead, a sneering John Laurinaitis “humbly” did it for him. The executive revealed that Punk couldn’t take the stage, but he will be in the ring on Sunday.

Voting has a way of causing animosity in the WWE.com offices. There have been shouting matches at Cyber Sunday, a fistfight during Raw’s Power to the People and that unfortunate atomic wedgie incident in the final round of the 2007 Diva Search. Still, despite some hurt feelings, we’re not shy about voicing our opinions, so we’re looking ahead to the 2011 Slammy Award for “Superstar of the Year,” which is currently drawing thousands of voters to WWE.com. (CLICK HERE TO VOTE NOW)
Reviewing the performances of John Cena, Alberto Del Rio, CM Punk, Mark Henry, The Miz and Randy Orton over the past 12 months, we attempted to pick the odds of who will win the coveted Slammy — and avoid getting our Hanes yanked over our heads because of it.
CM Punk
The Straight Edge Superstar’s WWE Title victory over Alberto Del Rio in New York City’s Madison Square Garden was designed to be his “moment.” But when WWE fans look back at CM Punk’s highlights over the past year, they won’t focus on a match or a victory, they’ll zero in on a speech. On June 27, Punk grabbed a microphone and delivered what would become his sermon on the mount — a scathing, straightforward indictment of everything The “Voice of The Voiceless” thought was wrong with WWE. When he opened his mouth that night, The Straight Edge Superstar was a villain. By the time WWE executives had cut his mic off, he’d become the most popular figure in sports-entertainment. Bigger moments followed — namely his WWE Title win over John Cena at Money in the Bank — but if Punk wins this Slammy it will be because of six minutes of uncensored audio brilliance.
Odds: 5:1

Big cities, bigger triumphs for CM Punk
By: Tom Herrera | December 9, 2011
There he was, with nearly 15,000 WWE fans packed into the Allstate Arena near Chicago for Money in the Bank. The heat of the lights was nothing compared to having that many wide-eyed devotees bringing their chants to a fever pitch – “CM Punk! CM Punk! CM Punk!”
It was the start of a special run, the first of a series of defining victories that took place in America’s biggest cities for The “Voice of the Voiceless.”
The WWE fans in Illinois weren’t only expecting a five-star match on July 17, 2011, they were expecting something much bigger than that. Something that proved Punk was a man of his word and worthy of such an overwhelming show of support. With emotions high and the arena shaking, he delivered by pulling off the unthinkable: beating John Cena for the WWE Championship on the final night of his WWE contract.
With that memorable show in his home state, The Second City Savior didn’t just further carve out his legacy in WWE. He showed that he can meet some of the greatest of expectations – the ultimate burden of performing in a big city. He became a people’s champion for all of Chicago, or as Punk calls it, his very own “Gotham.”

WWE 12 interview – CM Punk talks about the game, WrestleMania, comic books and more
The straight edge superstar reflects on his best year yet
By Henry Gilbert on December 6, 2011
In just a matter of months CM Punk has gone from undervalued and underrated to the one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE, currently holding the top title belt in the promotion. Thanks in part to his appeal to older fans and his respect for wrestling’s past, he’s at the top of his game these days. It seems the rest of sports entertainment has finally caught on to what hardcore fans have known for years: CM Punk is the best in the world.
Like most of the roster, Punk appears in WWE 12, the newest wrestling game from THQ and the successor to the SmackDown franchise, though thanks to contract disputes earlier in the year Punk almost didn’t make it. He got in just under the wire, and the devs were even able to incorporate his new entrance theme “Cult of Personality.” We sat down with the champion as he enjoyed his breakfast, he remarked about how impressed he was at the game makers’ ability to keep up with all the additions to expanding number of tattoos.
We began reflecting on the year that’s been and asking Punk how he thinks he can make next year even better. “Well it just depends on what I do at WrestleMania. It has to be something high profile at this point, but obviously the main event is set. So once again I miss out on what should be my rightful spot in Mania. But I’m a big Chicago Cubs fan, so I used to saying ‘there’s always next year.’”
